Chapter 041: Industrial Visit to Proton with MMU IBM User Group

Date: 20th June 2013 (Thursday)
Venue: Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Berhad, Shah Alam (3.035923,101.561757)

In the morning, around 07:15 a.m., all the students who participate on the visit would be gathered at Dewan Tun Chanselor, Multimedia University (2.929492,101.641607) before we get on the Multimedia University bus to go there. The student who joined the visit can be exempted the class from 08:00 a.m. till 01:00 p.m. (I can skipped my class from 09:00 a.m. till 01:00 p.m. and after this I would have no class for the week.). The event is organized by MMU IBM User Group and the in-charge person would be Mr. Goh Chien Le (the programming lecturer who I know him during I assigned to his tutorial session for Student Tutorship Programme). We reached there around 09:00 a.m..

The front office for Proton Holdings Berhad is nice and we can buy our souvenir such as shirts, jackets, pen, watch and so on. We walked around the lobby while waiting for the officer to bring us to walk around the factory, which is known as Multi Vehicle Factory (MVF). Before that, we are required to wear the bump cap before we started our visit at MVF. During the visit in MVF, we are not allowed to take any photos (I can managed to take some pictures at the lobby only.). The process to make a car would be briefly explained in the next paragraph.

At first, the shape of the car would be made, after that it would send to inspection before it paint and installed with the engine, tires, windows and seats. At last it would have some test on the tires, brake and also shower test.

During the visit, we saw the machine can make the car by its own, and according to the officer, the system is being made from Japan, and sent to Korea to set up the system before bring to Malaysia. The machine can change the cap / gun itself when needed. After that, the officer showed us the place where can do the inspection for the car body. But he did mentioned he can't bring us to the place where the car body being painted because we need the safety shoes and the safety coat because there are lots of chemical inside which are very dangerous for us. And then another officer came and explained us about the installation of the component and the final test when the car is done. Thanks a lot to the officer for the explanation on how the car is process, and all of us are enjoyed our journey.

When we returned to the lobby, the officer are invited us for the tea time before we left. And there are fried bee hoon, fried popiah and also the kuih with the cold drink. The food are delicious and I eat a lot because want to save the money for my lunch. Around 11.00 a.m., we returned to Multimedia University and we reached around 11.40 a.m.. Thanks a lot to Mr. Goh Chien Le for the awesome event. I heard in the upcoming semester there would be visit to HP.
